InterARt
A Collaborative AR Art Tool
InterARt introduces an augmented reality (AR) tool designed for art creation that transcends traditional collaborative boundaries, strengthening social interaction within the artistic and cultural landscapes.
Key Features
By enabling users to create art together in augmented reality, InterARt transcends the constraints of time and space, bringing people emotionally closer and enhancing their sense of social presence. The platform achieves this by integrating several key capabilities: remoteness; asynchrony; interactions with the real world and people; and collaborative creation, empowering users to co-create and build upon each other's ideas.
Remote Collaboration
By storing AR art creation data on cloud servers, users can access and create art from anywhere in the world, enabling friends globally to collaborate on the same piece, as shown in Figure 22. This approach not only liberates creation and collaboration from spatial constraints but also unites global creativity.
Asynchronous Collaboration
Although remote collaboration removes spatial limitations, people are not always available to participate simultaneously due to varying schedules. This challenge is even more pronounced for friends who are far apart, where time differences can make it difficult to collaborate simultaneously. However, the capability for asynchronous collaboration addresses this issue by storing each modification made to a creation. This allows the next participant, regardless of how much time has passed, to experience the creativity and emotion left by the previous creator. For example, a user in Beijing might create an artwork in the afternoon, while their friend in the United States is still asleep. When the friend in the U.S. wakes up, they can immediately see and contribute to the creation initiated by their friend in Beijing.
Interactions with Real World and People
Interacting with the real world is one of the greatest appeals of augmented reality. InterARt leverages image tracking and landmark tracking technologies to facilitate interaction with the physical environment in various scenarios.
User Flow
Content Operating Interface
The local creation interface was developed utilizing Lens Studio's content editor, continuing the technical approach of using diverse elements that simulate three-dimensional brush strokes to assemble 3D AR artworks. Users can select from an array of building elements. They have multiple manipulation options for these elements, including moving, rotating, scaling, copying, and establishing parent-child relationships. Additionally, I am working on integrating a feature to change object colors, which is planned for inclusion in upcoming versions.
Scenario 1:
Long Distance Relationship
In long-distance relationships, couples often struggle with limited opportunities for communication, largely due to time differences. These differences reduce the amount of time available for both partners to be simultaneously free, and traditional social platforms lack interactivity. Both traditional social platforms and multiplayer games have their own limitations. InterARt addresses the challenges faced by long-distance couples effectively by enabling remote asynchronous collaboration. Partners can create or appreciate art left by the other at their convenience, experiencing love that transcends time and space. In such intimate scenarios, custom landmark tracking allows heartfelt creations to consistently appear in familiar settings, enhancing the immersive experience of the connection
Scenario 2:
My Portable Michelangelo
Want to carry your artwork with you and create or enjoy it anywhere? It's easy! Users can print or save a digital version of an image marker and carry it with them. By scanning the marker wherever they are, they can create or appreciate their art anytime, anywhere. Whether in a park, a café, or a restaurant, as long as inspiration strikes, they can start creating right on the spot. This flexibility allows users to seamlessly integrate art into their daily lives, enhancing their creative potential and enjoyment wherever they go.
